Abalone shells (known in New Zealand as paua) have been used for a very long time for sacred smudging practices. not only because they are practical in that they catch the hot cinders that fall away from the smudging stick after it has burnt, but also because they are a beautiful gift straight from Mother Earth's ocean.
Abalone shells are only found around the coast of New Zealand. These Shells are huge, measures around 6-7" in length and about 4-1/2" in width (slight dimensional differences due to nature.)
